Last week, BEIS announced that the small biomass tariff will be reduced by 5% on 1 April. This is in line with the normal degression mechanisms.
Although the previous DECC aimed for 1 April for implementing the RHI reform, this has been delayed. In the RHI consultation response, the Government instead stated that implementation would be ‘Spring 2017’. Our understanding is that they are aiming for end of April implementation, however, this is subject to parliamentary schedule and when the legislation can pass through parliament.
Until these changes have been implemented, the RHI will continue as it currently is, i.e. with a specific tariff for small, medium, and large biomass. However, this does NOT mean that these tariffs will be available until July.
